Beer range varies but usually a Marble beer [H]
Opened just before Christmas 2010 and rapidly established as a popular venue in the regenerating Sunderland Street area of Macclesfield. Named after Macclesfield’s nickname of Treacletown*. In the premises formerly occupied by a saddlery shop, the narrow building has a boarded floor, simple wooden tables and chairs on each side and a bar at the rear. The joint licensees are Bronwyn Riley and her husband Tim Sedgwick . Three handpumps serve a constantly rotating range of local beers. The Tap is designed to be a welcoming place to drop in for a drink at any time while in town, so the menus list the wide range, not only of wines and foreign beers, but also of teas and coffees and soft drinks. The food choice is from of a range of pies, normally a choice of five , plus mash, peas and gravy if required. For entertainment there are board games, newspapers, books and free wi-fi, as well as a quiz on Sunday evenings (I'm informed it is quite fiendish - specialist rounds on cemeteries, for example). Regular Book Club and ‘Stitch and Bitch’ evenings are organised (not on the same nights!) plus drop in acoustic sessions on Sunday afternoons. Foreign conversation groups, poetry evenings and Meet the Brewer events are also held.
*Apparently a barrel of treacle fell from a wagon at the top of Hibbert Rd. and rolled down the hill, spreading treacle as it went.
